A pay stub (also called a payslip or earnings statement) is a document that shows an employee how their pay was calculated — gross earnings, deductions, and net pay. Employers are often legally required to provide them, and employees sometimes need them to prove income for rental applications or loans. Here is how to create one for free in minutes.

- Enter the employee details — name, address, and pay period dates.
- Enter the earnings — hourly rate and hours worked, or a salary amount.

- Click Generate and download your PDF pay stub — no account or watermark.
What should a pay stub include?
A complete pay stub should contain the following information:
- Employer information: Business name and address.
- Employee information: Full name and address.
- Pay period: The date range the pay covers (e.g. 1 April 2026 – 14 April 2026).
- Pay date: The date the employee was paid.
- Gross earnings: Total pay before any deductions — this may include base pay, overtime, allowances, or bonuses listed separately.
- Deductions: Tax withheld, superannuation (or pension contributions), health insurance, and any other withholdings — each listed separately.
- Net pay: The amount the employee actually receives after all deductions.
- Year-to-date totals: Running totals for the financial year — useful for tax purposes.
Pay stubs for self-employed and sole traders
If you are self-employed and a client or landlord asks for proof of income, you do not have a traditional employer to issue a pay stub. In this situation you have a few options:
- Create a pay stub as both employer and employee. Enter your business name as the employer and your name as the employee. This is a summary of what you paid yourself for the period.
- Use bank statements. Many lenders and landlords accept three to six months of bank statements as proof of income for self-employed individuals.
- Tax return or Notice of Assessment. Your most recent tax return or ATO Notice of Assessment is the most authoritative proof of annual income.
Pay stub legal requirements in Australia
Under the Fair Work Act, Australian employers must provide a pay slip to every employee within one working day of each pay day. The pay slip must include the employer's name and ABN, the employee's name, the pay period, the gross and net amounts paid, any deductions, and the hourly rate if the employee is paid by the hour.
Failing to provide a pay slip — or providing one with missing information — can result in a penalty of up to $16,500 per breach for corporations under the Fair Work Act.
