How to Convert PDF to Excel

Convert a PDF to an editable Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) for free — no email, no signup, no watermark. Works with invoices, bank statements, price lists, financial reports, and any other text-based PDF with table data.

Step-by-step

  1. 1Upload your PDF using the file picker or drag and drop.
  2. 2Click "Convert to Excel" to extract the data.
  3. 3Download the .xlsx file and open it in Excel or Google Sheets.

Best suited for

  • Text-based PDFs with structured tables — invoices, financial reports, price lists, and data exports work best.
  • PDFs where you can select and copy text in a PDF viewer are text-based and will convert accurately.
  • Scanned or image-based PDFs (where text is not selectable) cannot be extracted to Excel — use PDF to Word with OCR instead.

What to expect

  • Tables and structured data in the PDF are extracted into spreadsheet rows and columns.
  • Text-heavy PDFs without tables will still convert but may need formatting cleanup.
  • The tool automatically detects scanned PDFs and warns you before conversion.

How the table extraction works

  • Filero uses Tabula, a purpose-built PDF table extraction engine — not a generic format converter — so rows and columns land in real spreadsheet cells.
  • Lattice mode is tried first on each page (follows the ruled lines of bordered tables), then stream mode (detects column alignment in borderless tables).
  • Each detected table can go to its own sheet, or everything can be combined into one sheet — choose with the "Output layout" toggle before converting.
  • Headers spanning merged cells are filled across columns so the spreadsheet is ready to sort and filter immediately.

Why not just copy and paste?

  • Copying a table out of a PDF usually pastes every row into a single column, losing the structure — each cell then has to be separated by hand.
  • Extraction keeps numbers as numbers, so totals, pivot tables, and formulas work straight away in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Multi-page tables (like a 12-page bank statement) are extracted page by page in one pass instead of dozens of copy-paste rounds.

Free PDF to Excel tool

  • No account, no email address, and no watermark on the output.
  • No file limit tricks — convert as many PDFs as you need.
  • Outputs a standard .xlsx file compatible with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and LibreOffice Calc.
  • Files are processed securely over HTTPS and deleted from the server immediately after conversion.
