Region and business

Prepacked for direct sale food needs its name and a full ingredients list with the allergens emphasised in the list. Sulphites are declared above 10 mg/kg or 10 mg/litre as SO2. EU countries can add national rules for food that is not prepacked. Based on Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 and FSA guidance. Verify against your local rules. Last verified 2026-11-08. PPDS labels in the UK

Since 1 October 2021, food that is prepacked for direct sale (PPDS) in the UK must show the name of the food and a full ingredients list, with any of the 14 allergens emphasised in that list. The change is often called Natasha's Law.

What counts as PPDS

PPDS food is packed on the same premises where it is sold, before a customer orders it. Examples are sandwiches and salads packed in the morning and placed in a fridge, or cakes boxed ahead of time on the counter. Food packed after the customer orders it is not PPDS.

Allergens in bold, with no Contains line

Each tagged allergen prints in bold in the ingredients list. When an ingredient name does not show the allergen, Filero adds it in brackets, for example tahini (sesame). A separate Contains line does not replace emphasis in the list, so UK and EU labels from this tool carry none.

A4 label sheets

Choose Avery L7160 (21 labels), L7163 (14 labels) or L7165 (8 labels), or set your own size. Print the test page on plain paper at 100% and hold it against your sheet before you print a full sheet of labels.

Outside the UK

The 14 allergens are the same across the EU and the emphasis rule comes from the same regulation. Rules for food packed on the premises differ by country, so check with your national food authority.

Frequently asked questions

What must a PPDS label show?

The name of the food and a full ingredients list, with any of the 14 allergens emphasised in that list. FSA guidance has the full details and examples.

Can I use a "Contains" statement instead?

No. On PPDS food the allergens must be emphasised within the ingredients list. A Contains line does not replace that, so this tool does not print one for the UK and EU.

Which label sheets can I print on?

Avery L7160, L7163 and L7165 on A4, or your own custom size. Print the test page on plain paper first to check the alignment.

Does Filero check my recipes?

No. This tool formats the allergen information you enter. It does not check recipes or ingredients, and it never guesses allergens from ingredient names. You are responsible for accuracy.

Is my menu uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser and the PDF is made on your device. Your work is saved in this browser only, and you can save a project file to keep it or move it to another device.
